From The Land of Sky Blue Waters

Speed Gibson is back! I'll be posting across multiple topics like weight loss, sports, and of course, politics.

"My Blue Heaven" was a big hit record 100 years ago, and the title of two movies. For me, it sums my 76 years of life here in Dick Cullum's Five County Mosquito Control District in Minnesota. It's the agony of its cold winters but also the ecstasy of its wonderful summers. It's a quality of life that was great, still mostly is good, but now is in seemingly irreversible decline. For yes, Minnesota is hopelessly blue, more heaven than hell, but willingly forsaking its great history and heritage to chase what Thommas Sowell calls "Cosmic Justice."

I ask: what has changed? A State that once heralded U. S. Senators Hubert Humphrey and Eugene McCarthy now settles the likes of Al Franken and Tina Smith. While we would be hard-pressed to choose our best Governor ever, there is no doubt who is the worst: Tim Walz. And yet, he was handily re-elected in 2022.

And now, Tim Walz has 2028 Presidential aspirations! And so did Amy Klobuchar, Tim Pawlenty, Rudy Perpich, and Dean Phillips in years past. Just as Joe Soucheray notes how political IQ falls near tall buildings, I wonder if there's something in our sky-blue waters here that triggers and amplifies a mass Dunning-Kruger effect, in candidates and voters alike.

I see otherwise informed, intelligent people claim that Jan Malcolm did a great job during Covid as head of our Department of Health. The police are hopelessly racist. Light Rail is the future, no matter the cost and the crime. We require no accountability from our bloated, under-performing government ("public") schools, just free meals, even in the summer. Just don't close our Elementary school despite falling enrollment.

And then there is local media. The national media did the vetting of Tim Walz that our supinely uncurious locals did not. You would think such an embarrassment would prompt some change, dare I say actual reporting. Instead, this has facilitated the welcome rise of Alpha News to fill the fact-based reporting void.

Agan I ask: where is this all coming from? Is it just tall buildings and sky-blue water? No, I think it's O'Sullivan's Law, that any organization that does not enshrine "right wing" values like free markets and personal liberty will become "left wing" over time.

So, rest assured that truth, justice, and the American way are valued here on this blog.

Gutfeld! Gutfeld?

As one who enjoyed the irreverence that a 2 AM timeslot affords, the old "Red Eye" show was a delight.  Even so, there was relativ...
